Great historical and insightful .. as I read each line family heritage was most apparent.
When people share their thoughts in a world that screams " look this way, believe what I tell you" stories like this remind us what we hold most dear. Thank you and many blessings.
What an interesting piece of history and that it was bread not pasta (don't Italians and pasta go together?) that takes centre stage. Come to think of it, cold pizza could have been the meal choice, but bread was chosen. I guess a sandwich is the most practical of choices.

Thank you! ❤️ Our stories and family heritage remind us where we came from and what truly matters.

That made me smile! Italians and pasta certainly belong together, but sometimes nothing beats the practicality of good bread. 🍞🇮🇹
I didn't know the origin of the word "hoagie," John. Thanks for that! (Never heard of Hog Island before, either.)
I think maybe the rivalry between hoagie and sub is akin to how different regions of the US have their own version of pizza and barbecue!
Exactly! Food names are so regional. That’s part of what makes these traditions and the stories behind them so much fun.
Loved this. All of iit. And commitment to oil over mayo makes me emotional.
Thank you! 😂 Olive oil over mayo—always. Some Italian traditions are non-negotiable. 🇮🇹❤️
One of the hugest things I learned when I first moved to Italy is that quality food does not need mayo.
❤️
